Five star luxury fashion shoot for Commercial Photography students
Wednesday, 10 May, 2017 — BA (Hons) Commercial Photography students head to Pentillie Castle for a photo shoot with top fashion photographer Holly McGlynn, who has shot for global brands including Louis Vuitton, Levis, Mulberry and for some of the world’s best known fashion titles including Elle, Grazia and Cosmopolitan.
<h5>Students from our<a href="https://www.aup.ac.uk/courses/undergraduate/ba-hons-commercial-photography-1"> BA (Hons) Commercial Photography for Fashion, Advertising and Editorial</a> degree recently got the chance to hone the skills learned on their course with a live brief and a fashion shoot at <a href="https://www.pentillie.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Pentillie Castle</a>’s award-winning five-star estate.</h5>
<p>As part of their Fashion Week activity, students from all three years of the Commercial Photography programme were granted exclusive access to shoot in the luxurious rooms and grounds of the 17th-century castle.</p>
<p>The brief was themed around New Romanticism and was set by visiting lecturer and top fashion photographer <a href="http://www.hollymcglynn.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Holly McGlynn</a>, who has shot for global brands including <strong>Louis Vuitton</strong>, <strong>Levis</strong>, <strong>Mulberry</strong> and for some of the world’s best known fashion titles including <strong>Elle</strong>, <strong>Grazia</strong> and <strong>Cosmopolitan</strong>.</p>
<p>Garments were supplied by local independent clothing brand Bairdy Clothing and Plymouth College of Art’s Fashion degree students. London based fashion photographer and retoucher <a href="http://zoemaxwell.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Zoe Maxwell</a> also joined the project, giving a lecture about her work and a masterclass in digital retouching for the first year students, as well as portfolio reviews for second and third year students.</p>
<p>Tasked with handling the brief from start to finish, students had to decide how to spend their budget for clothing and props to booking camera equipment, liaise with models, and then select and retouch final images.</p>
<p>Make-up artists and hair stylists from City College Plymouth were also enlisted to join the team, giving students from both colleges practical experience on a live commercial project.</p>
<p>With a short time frame to consider their clients’ expectations, and work as part of a creative team, students pitched their skills as art directors, stylists, lighting assistants and photographers, closely mirroring the experience they will have working on commercial projects in the photographic industry.</p>
<p>Alongside the fashion shoot, a small team of students were given the opportunity of shooting publicity photography for Pentillie Castle’s website, and students interested in food photography were provided with a range of dishes from the castle kitchen.</p>
