Julie Ellis

Artist

Julie Ellis Graduated from Arts University Plymouth in 2016 with a BA (Hons) in Painting, Drawing and Printmaking. She has been a resident artist at Ocean Studios since the start of her third year in October 2015 and has a series of solo shows and exhibitions set for the New Year the first taking place at Ocean Studios Gallery in January 2017.

Julie is a process-led painter whose work depicts landscapes derived from imagination, memories and feelings evoked by a 'place' which evolves cohesively with the materials she uses.

"Places tell stories where fragmented fables and memories intermingle. I seek to describe the landscape which exists in actuality and memory. The work is ambiguous, anonymous with imcomplete and open narritives, inviting the viewer to bring their own autobiographies and be transported by a desire to transcend to somewhere in the past. Suggestions of habitation appear in the light and structure of possible buildings or ruins where the painting becomes something tangible yet remains fleeting and unattainable."

In Julie's solo show Earth & Air: The Eposodic Memory (January 20 - February 17, 2017) visitors will be invited to gain an interesting insight into Julies practice as she will be painting live within the exhitibiton every Saturday.

"I make the work spontaneously and intuitively creating enigmatic and ambiguous compositions where visual information is subtracted and abstracted allowing the process to inform the work. The tactile nature of oil paint induces an intuitive, compelling and sensitive response to the materials, producing fluid and organic looking imagery and forms."

Julie was invited to exhibit at Delamore Arts in May 2017 and Leeds later on the Spring of 2017, plus is involved in an exciting collaborative exhibition with other artists at The Cube Gallery in Plymouth.

For more information please visit www.julieellisartist.co.uk
