An exciting new collaboration between Plymouth College of Art, Real Ideas Organisation, Plymouth University and Plymouth City Council, Made In Plymouth is a community interest company that aims to revolutionise the city’s souvenir offering, in a celebration of our buzzing creative scene and the wealth of talented contemporary crafters, makers and artists that live and work here.
Made In Plymouth CIC will work with makers and artists to create a range of authentically local products, that will all be designed and produced in the Plymouth area, with profits feeding back into the city’s economy. The scheme aims to create a range of 20 beautiful souvenirs ready for the Mayflower 400 commemorations in 2020.
A public launch for Made In Plymouth will take place at Ocean Studios at Royal William Yard on Wednesday 15 November 2017. Open to all, and free to attend, the event aims to engage with local artists, makers, businesses, manufacturers, and tourism operators who are all invited to attend the event to find out more about how they can get involved in the scheme, as well as enjoying some light refreshments from Column Bakehouse on arrival.
At the event, guest speaker Alice Mayor, founder of We Built This City, will share her experience of setting up a similar scheme in London. Also speaking at the launch Sarah James, Director of the Contemporary Craft Festival and Visit Devon Tourism Award Winner, will give a talk on how the Contemporary Craft Festival attracts exhibitors and audiences from across the UK.
