FORM is an exhibition that will showcase the fashion styling work of Mikey Neale, in collaboration with local creatives, including photographers and models.
The inception of FORM was inspired by the way Mikey works when putting outfits together. Through his methods of constructing and framing different garments in line with a certain aesthetic, the process results in, not only a fashion outcome but a piece of art.
Mikey wanted to put on the FORM exhibition in order to create a platform for his own work, as well as the work of the creatives he collaborates with. With cuts in funding to the arts, it's been more and more difficult to cover the costs of showcasing your work as an artist. Mikey realised that he would have to think of other ways of securing a platform for his work and as we move into an age where we are more connected than ever through online platforms, working as a group/collective or even having a large social media following can be hugely beneficial in getting yourself 'out there'.
An exhibition showcasing fashion photography as the sole focus is a rare sight for the city of Plymouth, it's a bold way of presenting work that is so often seen as an accompaniment rather than the focal point. Mikey hopes the exhibition will bring together the diverse fashion community that runs throughout Plymouth and the surrounding areas.
Mikey is in the final year of our BA (Hons) Fashion Media & Marketing programme and for his final major project is focussing solely on fashion styling due to his increased love and passion for creating looks, gained while undertaking an internship, then later employment, at the leading online destination for contemporary fashion and streetwear, Flatspot.com.
The FORM exhibition will be for ONE NIGHT ONLY, running from 6pm till 9pm on Thursday 26 April at Radiant Gallery, Plymouth. Free and open to all.
