Situated in the grounds of one of the most beautiful estates the UK has to offer, we spent the weekend at Port Eliot Festival 2017 hosting our signature pop-up workshops.
The festival, known for its literary themes, panel discussions, high profile visitors, world-class chefs and food stalls, eclectic music nights and pop-up boutiques, sold out of tickets almost instantly, with a record number of sales.
Based opposite the Art School Stage, by the Violet Bakery, our Plymouth College of Art pop-up tent provided the perfect chance for visitors to learn a new skill, meet like-minded creatives and leave inspired.
Our free workshops were fully booked throughout the weekend with visitors’ screen printing their own protest slogan tees and placards, letter pressing postcards with graduate Alan Qualtrough, illustrating their fave cakes with lecturer Caroline Pedler, painting botanicals onto silk scarves and so much more.
Alongside our workshops, we also had several members of staff represent us in the Port Eliot Pop Up Art School, opened by our very own Dr Stephen Felmingham, Programme Leader on our BA (Hons) Painting, Drawing & Printmaking degree.
Our main highlight of the weekend had to be our incredible bag design masterclass with designer Dame Zandra Rhodes and Matches Fashion, as well as a printing workshop with London designer Richard Quinn.
Our Young Arts were back by popular demand with their ceramic elephant painting workshop, raising over £100 for the Young Arts Bursary Scheme. We also secured internship opportunities for our students at John Lewis, Matches Fashion and with Richard Quinn and Zandra Rhodes.
A big thank you to everyone who made our tent festival ready, especially our Printed Textile & Surface Pattern team who adorned it with screen printed panels and plants and hosted many of the workshops throughout the festival.
