
Online Open Day
Before you decide where you would like to study and what course is right for you, it’s helpful to attend an event and speak to real staff and students about your options. Come along to our next Online Open Day, taking place from 2-5pm on Saturday 27 March 2020 and discover how Plymouth College of Art students are pushing the boundaries in art, design and digital media.
Our online events are a chance for you to get a virtual feel for life at a university-sector independent art school. Both online and on-campus, we are committed to providing meaningful learning experiences and we can’t wait to show you the creative courses we offer.
We welcome drop-ins, but to make the most of the event and receive more information over email, we recommend booking your place in advance. To join the talk simply set up your computer, tablet or mobile phone and click through the link provided over email and in the schedule below (talk title will become clickable on the event date).

14.00-14.30 | Principal’s Welcome
Start your online experience with an introduction from Plymouth College of Art’s Principal, Professor Andrew Brewerton. Discover the college’s rich history, creative ethos and international connections. Followed by an informal Q&A session.
14.30-15.00| Creative Careers
Speak to our technical staff and dedicated student experience staff about the additional support we can provide during your studies. This is the place to find out more about employability, mentoring and support for your studies, along with Workshop Wednesdays and our amazing technical resources.
14.30-15.00 | Living In Plymouth
Talk to our Student Union representatives about what being a student in Britain's Ocean City is like, discuss what your accommodation options are and learn all about our student-led societies and how to make the most of your time with us.
14.30-16.30 | Admissions, Student Support & Finance
Speak to our knowledgeable Admissions, Finance and Student Support staff in this drop-in session, open for the duration of the event. From applications and bursaries to study support and mental wellbeing — gain personalised advice on your next steps to a creative course at Plymouth College of Art.
This is also the place to speak one-to-one with our Subject Leaders, receive portfolio advice and enquire about our four-year Extended BA programme.
14.30-16.30 | Live Virtual Tour
Drop in to this room for a live virtual tour of our Tavistock Campus. We will walk you through our facilities and workspaces to give you a feel for what our campus looks like and you can choose where you would like us to take you. There will be tours starting at 14.30, 15.00, 15.30 and 16.00.
15:00-16:00 | Photography Degrees
Find out more about our BA (Hons) courses in Photography and Commercial Photography. From fashion and advertising to documentary and fine art photography, our students graduate with a diverse professional portfolio and can be found shooting for The Telegraph, Universal and Huawei. See our digital & film-based studios and editing suites (rated among the best in the country!), home to 19th Century processes through to the latest technology, an infinity cove, darkrooms and high-spec printing facilities. As one of our students you’ll also gain access to over 6000 pieces of specialist kit.
15:00-16:00 | Fine Art, Craft and Museum Studies Degrees
Interested in a career in Fine Art, Painting, 3D Crafts or Museum work? In this talk, you will discover all about our BA (Hons) Fine Art and BA (Hons) Painting, Drawing and Printmaking courses, and new for 2021; BA (Hons) Craft & Material Practices, and BA (Hons) Museum Studies. Our courses prepare graduates for an array of rewarding careers, from curation to printmaking, art therapy to jewellery design and more.
15:00-16:00 | Animation, Games, Graphics, Illustration & Creative Technologies Degrees
In this talk, find out all about our courses in Animation and Game Arts, Graphic Communication, Illustration and new for 2021; Creative Technologies. Discover how you can become a part of the UK games industry (the largest in Europe), design animated characters for film and tv, and collaborate with real-world clients such as Amazon, Getty Images, Lego and Penguin Random House UK.
15:00-16:00 | Film Media and Sound Degrees
Discover our range of Film, Media and Sound courses, including BA (Hons) Film & Screen Arts and new for 2021; BA (Hons) Sound Arts, and BA (Hons) Film Studies. Here you will meet inspiring staff from the School of Arts + Media, a creative community that encourages cross-collaboration and critical engagement with the cultural, ethical and political contexts of moving image. Alongside our on-site independent art cinema and well-stocked Multimedia Lab, your studies will be underpinned by an enviable list of visiting lecturers from industry. Recent contributors include; BAFTA award-winning filmmaker Babak Anvari, Film Critic Anna Smith, Director John McLean, and Oscar-winning filmmaker Mia Bays.
15:00-16:00 | Fashion, Fashion Communication, Textiles, Costume and Interior Design Degrees
Join our team of expert academics and find out if a future in the ever-evolving and fast-paced design industries is for you. Courses covered will include; BA (Hons) Fashion Design, BA (Hons) Fashion Communication, BA (Hons) Textile Design, BA (Hons) Costume Production, and BA (Hons) Interior Design & Styling. As a student, you'll take part in a variety of live projects, international showcases and visits from household name brands and industry front-runners. Past course contributors have included Dazed, Pentagram, Vogue, Future Lab, Size? Theatrecraft and National Trust.

Researching your post-16 options? Join our Pre-Degree Manager, Steven Forsyth in a dedicated room for Further Education (FE) discussion. Staff from our Palace Court Campus will talk you through our Extended Diplomas, International Baccalaureates and the UAL Foundation Diploma in Art & Design, to help you find the course that’s right for you. Parents, Guardians and Carers welcome!
16:00-17:00 | Foundation in Art and Design
Our Foundation Diploma offers a chance for students to discover, experiment and explore across a wide range of disciplines enabling your process of thinking and making to develop within a vibrant and diverse creative environment. This is an exciting and immersive course that prepares you for degree study in the creative arts. Our experienced academic team will be on hand to answer any questions you might have.

Come and talk to our expert panel to discuss what life is like as an international student studying in the UK. Our friendly admissions team and academics are here to help you prepare and give you practical advice about living in the UK, your application process and fees.
