Talking disruptive design with Jamie Billing

By Sarah Packer

“The UK’s design industry is one of the most established in the world. In the UK, businesses where design is integral to operations are twice as likely to have developed new products and services. Successful UK businesses and iconic brands such as Virgin, Jaguar Land Rover, O2, Dyson, and Diageo all regard design as essential to innovation and market expansion.” — Arts Council England.

We sat down with Jamie Billing, designer, innovator and Programme Leader on our BA (Hons) Product Design & Innovation programme, to talk design evolution, why the college’s facilities are so crucial and what to expect from his graduates.

Want a taster of the programme? Head to our Open Day on Saturday 23 April 2016 and sign up to our workshop – we’ll teach you how to make your own Google 3D glasses, creating a virtual reality experience with just your smartphone and a few up-cycled items.

We will be accepting applications to our BA (Hons) Product Design and Innovation programme for September 2017, and our BA (Hons) Product Design and Innovation Extended Degree is open for applications now.

Filming and editing by Luke Sims, Rauri Cantelo and Lewis Rhodes of Dotted Line Film, BA (Hons) Film students.
Directed by Sarah Packer and Maxine Aylett.
Music by Bugseed.
