Renowned photographers donate work to student print auction fundraiser

By Sarah Packer

On Friday 10 February, third years from our BA (Hons) Photography programme held a Print Auction at The New Continental Hotel, Plymouth.

Naming themselves Ocular, the photography collective are currently raising funds for their exhibition at the prestigious Free Range Show in London this year.

The print auction has become an annual event for the third year photography students and a chance to not only kickstart their fundraising but also to develop and challenge the students personal and professional skills.

Students auction off a print of Noel Gallagher by photographer Scarlett Page.

The evening saw works by renowned artists from across the world, including established names such as Scarlett Page, Michael Kenna, Sian Davey and Szymon Brodziak, being auctioned off to industry and the public.

With a mixture of photography, illustration and books up for grabs on the night, it was also a great chance for our students to network with artists, art collectors and businesses.

The auction also saw works by award-winning photography graduate Nicholas White and recent grads Kinga Burakowska and Jodie Davies.

BA (Hons) Photography student Josh Huxham, said: “The night was very enjoyable and successful, we raised a total of £2672! Which is going to really help towards our Free Range exhibition in London in June. We’d also like to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported us and attended the auction!”
