For over 20 years, The Rotary Club of Plymouth has held an annual competition for young artists, in celebration of the wealth of creative talent from across the city's schools.
Open to all students in secondary education across Plymouth, the Young Artist of the Year competition has three key stage categories: Years 7-9, Years 10-11, and sixth form. Students from a variety of schools took part, including Notre Dame School, Stoke Dameral Community College and Plymouth School of Creative Arts.
A showcase of budding creative talent and a fantastic opportunity for young artists to network with active members of the art world, this year’s competition was judged by the Rotary Club’s Graham Steen and Associate Dean of Pre Degree at Plymouth College of Art, Matias Shortcook.
"In an era when increasingly there is difficulty in studying and pursuing a creative profession it is wonderful to see such promising talent in our region."
– Matias Shortcook, Associate Dean of Pre Degree
The work submitted to the show was on display at the college from 21 - 23 November 2017, with a great turn-out for the opening night and awards presentation evening.
