Fashion Unwrapped at Plymouth School of Creative Arts

The event will take place at Plymouth School of Creative Arts which has previously played host to Plymouth College of Art's Graduate Fashion Show.

Year 10 Textiles students from Plymouth School of Creative Arts (PSCA) have been getting imaginative with an exciting fashion focused brief where they were tasked with making full outfits using just packaging materials.

The brief called for students to create a unique and complete outfit, using a combination of packaging materials including bubble wrap, duct tape, paper, cardboard and polythene. Students were not allowed to use any fabric, zips, or pre-made buttons or fastenings, or hot glue was allowed, although velcro could be used.

Materials for the project were donated by TEC Packaging Services, a Plymouth based packaging company who strive to provide environmentally friendly products whenever they can.

BA (Hons) Fashion graduate Amy Bray's collection on the catwalk in London at Graduate Fashion Week 2018.

The project will culminate in a catwalk show as part of an event at PSCA, where the final results will be judged and a winner will be selected.

The judges include Plymouth College of Art alumni and fashion designer Alice Vandy, who runs her own brand and has released collections with the likes of My Little Pony and Care Bears, as well as her designs being worn by celebrities including Jessie J and Paris Hilton. Alice will be joined by Amy Bray, also a graduate from the BA (Hons) Fashion programme at Plymouth College of Art. Amy’s designs were showcased on the catwalk at Graduate Fashion Week 2018, and Amy was also featured in the college’s 2017 campaign.

The judging panel will be completed by Jackie Gayle and local businesswomen from two salons in the city - Steph from The Lounge and Gemima from Bombshells Plymouth.

Alice Vandy graduated from Plymouth Art College in 2012 with a BA (Hons) in Fashion, and has set up her own successful business.

Completed outfits will be judged on workmanship, originality, use of colour, creative use of packaging materials and wearability.

The fashion show will be held in collaboration with the music department at PSCA, with performances from bands including Gables End, and there will be canapes and drinks on offer.

There will also be a Next Steps South West stand at the event, where students and parents can find out more about the creative post-16 courses on offer at Plymouth College of Art and across the South West.

Tickets for the event can be bought from the reception at PSCA for £2.50.
