Featuring art from the UK’s most exciting up-and-coming young artists, the Pre-Degree Summer Show is free and open to the public from Monday 26 - 30 June.
Students aged 16-19 from our range of UAL Extended Diploma programmes will transform Palace Court's open-plan studios into a lively gallery space, showcasing art, fashion, design and digital media. Celebrating the culmination of two years intensive experimentation and personal development, visitors can enjoy a diverse collection of cross-collaborative artwork, conceptual thinking and impressive technique.
Here, we've selected three students to watch, whose work showcases a promising pool of talent for Plymouth. In no particular order...
Cecily is an accomplished animator who bases her work on 'Magical Realism', a narrative genre that presents the extraordinary or magical as normal. She works across many different mediums; drawing, painting, cut out, collage and stop motion, and then combines these elements within the digital domain to create her animated works.
She's also been part of the BFI Academy residential training program during her time at the college and was awarded first place for her submission at the Into Film Animation Competition 2017 - she also took part in our Tate Exchange takeover earlier this year.
Extended Diploma in Film, Animation & Media Production lecturer Neil Rose said: "Cecily will undoubtedly go on to become a key member of the UK animation industry."
Florence is a passionate young artist using her creativity to empower women, and change the perspective on feminism.
Inspired by artists such as Julie Verhoeven and Petra Collins, Florence says her aim is “to raise awareness of social issues and to make people aware of the many angles of oppression that women face daily, through the medium of drawing, writing, styling and photographing beautiful women!”
Zack is an up-and-coming young illustrator specialising in concept art and visuals inspired by game culture. Joining the Pre-Degree programme due to a love of graphic novels such as Alan Moore's Watchmen, Zack has developed a distinctive style during his time studying Graphics, Illustration and Game Arts.
His prints on display during this year's show, which each took between 15 and 30 hours to produce, display clear themes of complex storytelling through imagery. Zack will be progressing to our BA (Hons) Game Arts undergraduate programme next year and aims to establish his own freelance business.
See all the fantastic work from our talented UAL Extended Diploma students at the Breaking Through Pre-Degree Summer Show from Monday 26 to Friday 30 June 2017.
