Multimedia Lab

Our city-centre main campus Tavistock Place is home to Undergraduate and Postgraduate students, MIRROR and Plymouth Arts Cinema.

<p dir="ltr">Whether attending online or in-person, our campus tours will help you get a real feel for life at an independent art school. Go behind the scenes of our workshops and studios, explore our social spaces and start visualising your studies here in the near future. Our friendly and knowledgeable team (with the help of real students!) are looking forward to showing you what makes Arts University Plymouth so unique.<br /></p>
<p>Tours of our Tavistock Place campus will include a visit to our <a href="https://www.aup.ac.uk/visit/the-refectory-1">Refectory</a> canteen and the <a href="https://www.aup.ac.uk/student-life/students-union">Students' Union</a> Social Space and Bar.</p> <p>You’ll also take a look around our Library, home to over 25,000 books and over 100 journals, as well as quiet study spaces and Mac suites.</p> <p>You will also be shown where our <a href="https://www.aup.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/disability-support-and-reasonable-adjustments">Student Support</a> team are situated - their team of counsellors and advisers are on hand to help with issues around mental health and wellbeing.</p> <p>You’ll visit <a href="https://www.aup.ac.uk/visit/the-gallery">MIRROR</a>, our on-site exhibition space which plays host to a high-quality contemporary programme of art shows and events, which enrich teaching and learning at the university. MIRROR has played host to some of the biggest names in current contemporary art, with exhibitions from the likes of Martin Parr, Rose Wylie, Timorous Beasties and Corinne Day.</p> <p>We’ll show you around our <a href="https://www.aup.ac.uk/resources">LABs</a>, including our Multimedia Lab, with photography studios, sound studios and green screen; <a href="https://www.aup.ac.uk/resources/fab-lab">Fab Lab Plymouth</a>, which includes the latest digital design and 3D printing technology, our Imprint Lab - with silkscreen, letterpress, litho printing facilities and more.</p> <p>The Fabric Lab houses facilities for producing textiles include knitting machines, a tufting gun, dyeing, sewing and pattern cutting, and our Materials Lab is where you’ll find equipment for working with clay, glass, plaster, metals and wood.</p> <p>Our Tours will also take you around our fully stocked <a href="https://www.aup.ac.uk/resources/multimedia-lab-equipment-resource-centre">Equipment Resource Centre </a> (ERC), where we have over 6,000 pieces of bookable equipment - from entry level DSLR cameras, to a professional industry-standard digital medium format camera Phase One, an Arri Alexa, and the Panasonic Varicam, used by the BBC to film Blue Planet. <p><strong>Palace Court </strong>is home to five hundred 16-19-year-old students studying arts, crafts, design and media. The creative Extended Diploma campus is just around the corner from the inspiring historical surroundings of the Barbican waterfront, and only five minutes walk from our main-site, Tavistock Place.<br /></p>

Palace Court Pre-Degree Campus

<p>Our dedicated space for<strong><a href="https://www.aup.ac.uk/courses/undergraduate/foundation-diploma-in-art-and-design-post-a-level" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> Foundation Diploma in Art &amp; Design </a></strong>students, <strong>Palace Studios</strong>, is situated on Buckwell Street in the heart of Plymouth’s city centre. Adjacent to the newly opened Bretonside multiplex and cinema redevelopment The Barcode and on the same street as Palace Court Pre Degree Campus.<br /></p> <p>Palace Studios includes two large specialist studios, comprising spaces over 160m2, designed to meet the needs of modern art, design and media students plus high windows for natural light, all housed only five minutes walk from our HE campus, Tavistock Place.</p> <p><strong>To arrange a Pre-Degree tour or for a personal tour with our Head of Pre-Degree - Steven Forsyth, please contact us at <a href="mailto:enquiries@aup.ac.uk">enquiries@aup.ac.uk</a>. Postgraduate Centre

<p>The <a href="https://www.aup.ac.uk/study/postgraduate/the-postgraduate-centre">Postgraduate Centre</a> is located in Studio 44, a few minutes walk from Arts University Plymouth’s Tavistock Place site. It houses two flexible teaching, study and display spaces dedicated to the use of postgraduate students. Teaching on MA programmes takes place at the Postgraduate Centre and across the Arts University Plymouth campus, where MA students engage with our technical facilities and areas of expertise relevant to their practice.</p> <p>The Postgraduate Centre is home to a dynamic community of scholars and makers, artists, designers, entrepreneurs, campaigners and activists.
