International Students

Our horizons couldn’t be more international

No coastal city knows more than Plymouth does about the value of an international perspective. Across this harbour have sailed Charles Darwin and The Beagle, Robert Falcon Scott bound for the Antarctic, Ernest Shackleton’s Endurance, Napoleon  imprisoned on the Bellerophon, survivors of The Titanic and innumerable pilgrim ships, bullion ships and warships.

In the same adventurous spirit, the College of Art is dynamic, altruistic and forward thinking. It welcomes a growing number of international students and draws upon an art school ethos without frontiers, spanning over 150 years.

Our admissions team is here to help you prepare for your stay and give you practical advice about living in the UK.

You can request more information or ask us a question by contacting If you would like to see the range of courses and programmes we offer, you can download our prospectus using the tab to the right or exploring the Courses pages of our website.

Portfolio guidance and how to submit

All our Programmes and Courses require a portfolio of work before any decision can be made on an offer of a place; this should be a range of work demonstrating your artistic ability and potential.  As an international applicant we understand that it is not always possible to attend an interview therefore we can accept portfolios in various formats for example on CD or via a link to your website or blog. We also arrange Skype interviews for our international applicants.

What happens after the application is received?

Once you have made your application you will be contacted via letter or email to confirm receipt and will be requested to submit your portfolio of work. When the portfolio is received it will be passed to the relevant Programme or Course leader and they will assess your suitability for your chosen subject. We offer all applicants a Skype interview so you can see the tutor and talk through the Programme or Course. Once a decision has been made you will be informed in writing, if you are made an offer of a place it may be subject to an English Language condition.
