Explore mental health and trauma at 'A Cake of Painted Tin' at KARST on 18 & 19 February

Following its exhibition at Studio KIND, A Cake of Painted Tin will be showing at KARST this February. The installation presents a body of new moving image and sound work exploring the experiences of writer Antonia White, with particular reference to her Frost in May novels. The texts describe White’s early life and young adulthood, including time spent in Bethlem Hospital for a psychosis, later attributed to her probable manic depressive illness. Featuring contributions by Plymouth College of Art alumni and staff, the installation explores trauma, haunting, memory and mental health.

18 & 19 February 2022 - 11am - 5pm @ KARST

Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand star in Joel Coen’s bold and fierce adaptation of the Scottish play; a tale of murder, madness, ambition and wrathful cunning. Shakespeare’s iconic and much adapted text gets a wonderfully fresh and singular reworking. Conjuring a beguiling nether-world between theatre and cinema, this is a stunning production, shot in silvery 4:3 monochrome, with near-expressionistic sets and a spellbinding score. Driving the action is an extraordinary cast that’s capped by British theatre legend Kathryn Hunter’s contortionist take on the Witches. Electrifying.

18 - 24 February 2022 - 2.30pm - 8pm @ Plymouth Arts Cinema

'Bodies in Space' is running until 26 February at MIRROR

Bodies in Space presents work by artists using the figure in painting and drawing to question and understand how we occupy, move through and negotiate the public and private spaces of daily life. The exhibition also reflects how figurative painting and drawing becomes more visible at times of wider social and political change.

27 November 2021 - 26 February 2022 - 9am - 5pm @ MIRROR

On display at The Box, ‘Another Crossing’ charts a course through the abyss of the Mayflower voyage. The premise of the exhibition is simple: each participating artist has created work in response to the Mayflower anniversary, utilising only tools, materials and processes that existed in 1620. It’s a concept that highlights the sophistication of historic craft practices like beadwork, joinery, metalsmithing, leatherwork and pottery.

26 February 2022 - 5 June 2022 - 10am - 5pm @ The Box
