Plymouth College of Art presents Boris Karloff: The Many Faces of a Film Icon, an online symposium dedicated to one of the great stars of the classic era. Supported by keynote addresses from all-round horror expert Dr Alison Pierse (University of Leeds) and acclaimed biographer Stephen Jacobs (author of Boris Karloff: More Than a Monster), the day will draw together a range of approaches to Karloff and his work from academics and artists alike, as well as a dedicated website showcasing a selection of archival materials and artist response to Karloff.

Boris Karloff The Many Faces of a Film Icon An Online Symposium

In the city’s first exhibition dedicated to fashion, highlights from The Box’s costume and textile collection will be displayed alongside paintings, drawings, film and archival material to tell important local and international stories about fashion and clothing. ‘Dress Code - Fashion Stories from The Box’ spans the 1700s to today and speaks to contemporary conversations about identity, sustainability, shopping, design, making and craft, and also features work from Pre-Degree, BA (Hons) Fashion Communication and BA (Hons) Costume Production students at the college.

Beginning with a gentle yoga session, Carly will bring together breathing practices and mindful movement to explore your body and mind in response to the exhibition times, finishing with a guided meditative drawing activity to illuminate your own creativity.

This four day portfolio-building course, for 14-19 year olds, will help you to create a diverse range of work and build the skills you need to present a creative portfolio during college and university interviews. From a range of creative disciplines, you’ll enhance your portfolio as well as learn how to present and discuss your work. If you complete the whole course, Plymouth College of Art guarantees you will attend an interview on your course of interest if you decide to apply to study!

Saint Agnes are a horror punk, trash-metal band from East London, with over seven million streams on Spotify. They are obsessively in control of all aspects of songwriting, music production, video directing and artwork creation, making for an almost immersive fan experience. Listeners are invited to lose themselves in an all-encompassing, twisted, dark fantasy world.

Professional writer and Plymouth’s Laureate of Words will be hosting each writer’s lab, while sharing her month to month writing process and give you an insight into her way of working. This is an opportunity for emerging writers to explore different writing techniques, try out ideas and share their writing in a safe space.

David Bowie

Plymouth Arts Cinema plays host to a special 50th anniversary double bill of David Bowie's 'The Man Who Fell to Earth' and 'Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars'

On 30 April 1972, David Bowie played Plymouth Guildhall in his incarnation as Ziggy Stardust. As a 50th anniversary celebration of this, Plymouth Arts Cinema are screening a special double bill of two of his finest and most enigmatic screen performances: Bowie’s first starring role in ‘The Man Who Fell to Earth’ and live-concert film ‘Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars’.
