By being able to stay at a hospice over Christmas, families get the chance to create these special moments, even if it’s the simple act of taking a well-earned rest and snuggling up on the sofa to watch a Christmas movie as a family, savouring a home cooked festive meal together or enjoying a good night’s sleep, knowing that their child is in safe hands.

Sharon Woods, Senior Estates Steward, said, “I am so pleased that this year that staff at the college have decided to donate to such a worthy cause as the Children's Hospice South West. With the donations, we know that the families of these children will be able to make some wonderful memories at Christmas to cherish forever. The Estates team would like to thank all who contributed to our collection, our staff and students and our contractors KK Controls, GW Electricals, Classic Builders and Scutum South West. Without all their support, we could not have made this possible. A few members of the team have close connections with people who use this amazing charity so it’s close to our hearts.”

Zoe Partridge, Area Fundraiser for Children’s Hospice South West said, “On behalf of the children and families that our hospices support, I would like to thank all the students, staff, contractors and everyone who contributed to this donation. It’s truly appreciated and will make a real difference.”

Children’s Hospice South West has three hospices in the region including Little Harbour in St Austell which supports 148 children and families from across Plymouth and Cornwall. Little Harbour will remain open to families 24/7 over the Christmas period offering resilience stays as well as emergency visits, end of life care and bereavement support. The hospice is a lifeline to families whose child’s diagnosis means it is unlikely they will live into adulthood. Since the pandemic the team are also providing home visits and virtual support allowing support to be given to families when and where they need it most.

Plymouth College of Art’s Estates and Front of House team make a point of fundraising every Christmas, with last year’s appeal seeing £1650 worth of toys and gifts for children headed to the Salvation Army as part of their annual Christmas Present appeal.
