Green Minds x The Village Hub Commission Open Call

We’ve partnered with Green Minds, Plymouth City Council and The Village Hub to offer £3000 of artist commissions exclusively for Plymouth College of Art students.

We’ve partnered with Green Minds, Plymouth City Council and The Village Hub (Stoke Village) to offer 10 Plymouth College of Art students the opportunity to gain valuable experience working with communities and professional creative producers.

If your application is successful, you will develop ideas exploring the theme of ‘social and environmental justice’ through co-creation and then pitch them to the community; three ideas will be chosen for commissions of £1000 each.

This project is just one of many generated from Plymouth College of Art’s ongoing partnership with Green Minds, in particular for Green Minds – Rewilding People and Places in Plymouth, a multi-partner project funded by the EDRF/Urban Innovation Actions.

The Village Hub in Stoke, Plymouth

An outdoor activity with The Village Hub, Stoke.

The Village Hub is a place for residents of the Stoke & Morice Town neighbourhoods to meet, create, care and grow. Their activities radiate outwards from a previously disused retail space on the high street in Stoke Village that they took on and renovated in 2020.

Their mission is to build on existing community spirit, working with local people to bring a bit more colour into all our lives. They work on the frontline providing opportunities that enable anyone in their community to connect through learning, signposting, cultural activities and having fun in a safe and caring environment. They host a Community Larder, a local Veg Box scheme, regular drop-in & advice sessions, community litter-picks, peer learning workshops, a monthly Culture Club, and art & craft and gardening groups. They incorporated as a Charitable Community Benefit Society explicitly to devolve power to members of the community, to help empower and support everyone to become community activists in their own right and take ownership of the local area, and the local green space at Blockhouse Park.

You can visit The Village Hub at 67 Devonport Road, Stoke Village, Plymouth, PL3 4DL or find out more online.

We want to hear why you’d be interested in taking part - whether that’s developing your artist practice or broadening your future career prospects. Tell us what you hope to bring to the project and gain from it as well, we want everyone involved to benefit from this collaborative experience.
