Martina Rooney was raised in Ireland but has lived in the South West of the UK for thirty years. She has an MA in Photography and The Book attained from the University of Plymouth, and she is primarily interested in the role of the photographic book in contemporary visual culture.
She also achieved a first class (Hons) Degree in Photomedia and Design Communication from Plymouth College of Art. Martina has been teaching Photography and Contextual studies at Plymouth College of Art since 2004 whilst also maintaining her own freelance photographic business. Her photographic work is heavily influenced by her cultural background and attempts to examine concepts of culture and identity in a variety of ways.
