Plymouth College of Art partners with Princess Yachts at London Craft Week 2017

This year the college will attend London Craft Week as a brand partner of luxury British yacht manufacturer Princess Yachts, alongside Plymouth Gin, joining a host of globally renowned brands to celebrate the very best of international and British craftsmanship.

Princess Yachts, which was established in 1965 and has since produced over 17,000 yachts, will offer visitors a rare glimpse into the world of British yacht craftsmanship with a selection of workshops on 5 May by its team of expert artisans. Each of the skilled professionals will reveal the unique techniques utilised to produce different components that are integral parts of the finished luxury yachts

From bespoke furniture to complex metalwork, attendees will discover fabrication techniques and the meticulous attention to detail afforded by Princess Yachts. There will also be fantastic opportunities for attendees to engage with special guest students and staff from the college, while enjoying a cocktail from Plymouth Gin.

Now entering its third year, London Craft Week offers exclusive access to some of the most prestigious brands and institutions in the world, shining a spotlight on the work that goes into creating products of unparalleled quality.

Kiran Haslam, Marketing Director at Princess Yachts, said of the partnership, "We are delighted to be taking part in this year’s London Craft Week alongside some of the most exceptional brands from around the world. Princess believes in championing British luxury craft and we are excited to be able to share the techniques and skills our craftsmen have perfected over the past 50 years with people who want to learn more about this fascinating industry." 

Paul Singleton, Associate Dean of Design at the college, said: "At Plymouth College of Art we celebrate material and making. The young designer-makers we are presenting at London Craft Week are specialists in ceramics, glass, mixed media and metals. Their work is crafted to very high standards and although at the start of their careers, they will be names to watch out for in the future." 

The Princess Yachts: Crafted in Plymouth workshops will be held at Hotel Café Royal, Regent Street on Friday 5 May. The sessions will be held at 10:00 am, 12:00pm and 1:30pm and tickets, which must be reserved in advance, cost £20 per person.
