Vitreous sees selected work from second-years, on our BA (Hons) 3D Design Crafts, BA (Hons) Jewellery, and BA (Hons) Ceramics & Glass programmes, on display in an exhibition celebrating the 50th anniversary of Dartington Crystal taking place at Dartington Hall as a one-day event.
Dartington Crystal in Torrington, Devon is an internationally recognised glass manufacturing company. Founded in 1967 by Frank Thrower with the help of eighteen Swedish glassmakers, Dartington Crystal produces high-quality functional glassware for a burgeoning contemporary domestic and overseas market.
The students’ work is a reflection to mirror their experiences of Dartington Crystal that they have gleaned through company visits, individual and group research.
Where they have explored the hidden stories associated with Dartington Crystal, the influence of Dartington’s Scandinavian heritage, the emergence of this unique institution from the social ambitions of Dartington Hall Trust and the evolution of design and production methods over a 50-year span.
The work on show reflects the student's personal interests and ambitions as designer/makers or conceptual practitioners, with a desire to continue to develop the skills and innovations encapsulated in the legacy of Frank Thrower.
Join us for the private view on Thursday 27 April 2017, 6.30-8.30pm at the Ship Studio, with a chance to meet the students.
