Part Two of the South West Showcase 2015 – Marie Toseland solo exhibition

The South West Showcase is a recurring, biannual open call platform, showcasing artists from across the South West region hosted at The Gallery at Plymouth College of Art – and part two sees a solo show for Marie Toseland.

Marie studied at UWE and is currently undertaking a residency at the Tate in St Ives. She works across a range of media including producing objects, images and texts exploring themes  such as the contrasting notions of stillness and spectacle, and tangibility and transience.

Her new work entitled ‘pushin’ sumthin’ nice (feat. Kinlaw)’ will be open to the public in the Gallery at Plymouth College of Art from Wednesday 25th February until Saturday 4th April, 9am 'til 6pm Monday to Friday and 10am 'til 2pm on Saturday (closed on Sundays).

Being & Nothingness, 2011, by Marie Toseland

The showcase involves a series of exhibitions, talks and screenings and aims to uncover and celebrate the talent of contemporary artists working and living in the South West and to present a long-term commitment from Plymouth College of Art to profiling and supporting the practices of visual artists in this region. Part One is a solo show for Kit Poulson.

– Simon Morrisey continues the showcase with his talk about his directorial involvement in two of the South West’s most innovative visual arts platforms, WORKS|PROJECTS and Foreground, and the different pressures and rewards for artists working within and outside of each system.

– Artist Abigail Reynolds will discuss the work she has made following her exhibition at the Gallery in 2013, including a screening of a new film work made with two brass bands in Cornwall on the summer solstice 2014, with support from Plymouth College of Art.
