Known worldwide as the place to discover new talent and the latest trends, Fashion Weeks are a series of designer presentations held biannually in New York, London, Milan and Paris.

Lasting one week each they attract the biggest names in industry and run for just under a month. For our students, this is an incredible opportunity to photograph, film and meet leading industry professionals face to face.

Our first year BA (Hons) Fashion Media & Marketing students visited 180 Strand, London for an intense four days of street style photography, fashion presentations and catwalk shows.

Capturing the incredible atmosphere and people that London Fashion Week attracts, students worked in a range of mediums including image and film.

Synonymous with wearable style that often shakes up the fashion industries visualisation of trends, London Fashion Week is a great environment from which to build knowledge and take inspiration.

"I had no idea what to expect or how to prepare myself for LFW, but I left feeling both overwhelmed and inspired." — Amaryllis Knight

“Fashion week was an incredible experience for me, as I've never been a part of anything like it. I loved the atmosphere and the fashion vibe from the different parts of London. It was also great to see everybody wearing exactly what they wanted, and really going all out with different styles and outfits and not caring about opinions or judgements.”

Charlie Wise, first year BA (Hons) Fashion Media & Marketing

“London Fashion Week was an exhilarating experience. You always see the hustle and bustle on social media and in magazines, but it's far more chaotic and exciting when you're actually there taking it all in. I had no idea what to expect or how to prepare myself for LFW, but I left feeling both overwhelmed and inspired. It is a true test in deciding whether it's your kind of scene in the fashion world or not - it was definitely mine!”

PARIS FASHION WEEK

Students on our second year of the programme jetted off to Paris for the Fédération Française de la Couture otherwise known as Paris Fashion Week.

The long hours, the quick turn around to clients and the buzz of mixing with the crème de la crème of industry meant the whistle stop two-day tour exposed students to the real life experience of becoming a street style photographer.

"I was on an adrenaline rush the entire time I was in Paris, I definitely want to go back next season, it was insanely awesome!” — Maria Zammit

Students shot at various locations around Paris, street styling at Dior, Issey Miyake, Off White, Chloe and Balmain.

It was an incredible encounter with leading editors, models and stylists as well as the famous faces who frequent Paris Fashion Week.

Here's what some of our students had to say about the experience...

“Paris was a real insight into professional street style photography. The experience of shooting in a real life environment allowed me to gain so much insight in order for me to move my career forward once I finish my degree. All in all, it was a great trip aided by our lecturer Kirsty Smith and artist in residence Beccy Nuthall. Their combined experience as photographers supported us while shooting under real pressure.”

Michael Neale, second year BA (Hons) Fashion Media & Marketing

“The trip was a great experience for me. It helped build my confidence as a photographer, especially after being used to studio shoots. I also appreciated the opportunity to work with Beccy Nuthall greatly, and learnt how to get the best shots possible when working in a fast-paced environment.”

Georgia Kolas, second year BA (Hons) Fashion Media & Marketing

“It was great to experience the life of a street style photographer for a few days, especially with the added support of Beccy. It was a fun way to dip into street style photography and a great confidence boost, learning skills on the go. I feel that I have added some new perspectives to my portfolio.

Clarice Jones, second year BA (Hons) Fashion Media & Marketing

"Paris Fashion Week was such a surreal experience, I wasn’t expecting to photograph as many models and celebrities as I did but I was lucky enough to have been given the opportunity to indulge in the street-style industry. It opened my eyes to street-style photography and allowed me to see what it’s really like to be at such high-end events. I was on an adrenaline rush the entire time I was in Paris, I definitely want to go back next season, it was insanely awesome!”
