Our BA (Hons) Illustration graduates showcased work at national graduate show New Designers last month – with two selected by design agency Jelly as their highlights of the show.
Grads Dom Tsoi and James Rae had privilege of their work being recognised by London design agency Jelly in their blog round-up, whose clients include international brands such as Philips, GlaxoSmithKline and Pfizer.
James Rae works primarily in a digital style drawing inspiration from his surrounding environment. James branches into moving image too, adding another dimension to his illustrations by turning them into animations.
He was recently shortlisted for the prestigious Penguin Random House Design Award for his book cover design for cult novel Freakonomics and has worked with Cancer Research with his ‘Beat’ project.
Dom Tsoi works with brush pen and line to create visual, singular, narrative artwork. His style lends itself to book covers, clothing, editorial and print work.
Just before graduating with us he confirmed a junior design role with international clothing brand SaltRock. Co-founder Ross Thomson described Dom as “brilliant, easy to work with and quick to learn... he’s already produced some really nice work for us.”
Dom was also named as one of the trend highlights of New Designers by online print marketplace Patternback, alongside fellow BA (Hons) Illustration grads Georgina Ridler, Sam Brown, Leah Trengove and Emily Day.
