Our Postgraduate Centre is home to a cross-disciplinary community of makers and thinkers, all of whom are seeking a critical space in which to interrogate and push the boundaries of their specialist interests and working practices.
Heather is a practising designer, creative entrepreneur and an educator who disrupts the conventions of design to shift beyond the boundaries of fashion, art, craft, business and design activism.
Critical making, propositional thinking and a constant questioning of the framework all propel the work that Heather undertakes in the studio, in business and in the classroom.
Heather relocated to the UK from the west coast of Canada to begin postgraduate study with the Glasgow School of Art where she recently completed a Masters of Research in Design Innovation.
In Canada she worked under her own conceptually driven internationally recognised fashion label MONO and comes from a background in education, leading fashion and product design courses at both Emily Carr University and Vancouver Community College.
UN-MAKE & RE-CLOTHE is a new practice-based research project for Heather’s design firm MONO. It pilots investigations using the constraints of circular economy design ideologies, to generate insight into how design can innovate future capabilities and systems within fashion design.
Glasgow School of Art and Royal College of Art have collectively commissioned components of the UN-MAKE & RE-CLOTHE work as part of a larger collaborative research venture into manufacturing for the circular economy.
Charlotte is an award-winning printed textile designer and artist championing an innovative, multidisciplinary approach to textiles.
She completed her BA (Hons) in Printed Textile Design from the University of Brighton and on completion was awarded a scholarship from the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust to further her research at the Royal College of Art.
After completing her MA, Charlotte was selected for TexPrint alongside 24 of the UK’s most promising graduating textile designers to exhibit her work in London and Premiere Vision, Paris. Having created art pieces and textile designs since her undergraduate days, Charlotte took the opportunity to set up a small freelance business, designing prints and products to a wealth of different brands including the National Trust, Alexander McQueen, Ted Baker, Weekday, H&M, Marks and Spencer, Ralph Lauren and Club Monaco. Her rich knowledge of traditional screen printing and dyeing techniques combined with new digital technologies led her to be awarded the digital innovation prize from Miroglio, a prestigious textile mill who she has since worked for.
Charlotte worked for three years as a visiting lecturer on the Textile Innovation course at Loughborough University before relocating to Devon to take up her role at Plymouth College of Art.
Charlotte has always found the balance of teaching and designing a harmonious relationship and enjoys the challenges and breakthrough moments experienced by students.
Dr Steven Paige is Senior Lecturer & Subject Leader for Postgraduate Studies and Subject Tutor on MA Fine Art, at Plymouth College of Art.
He maintains his practice as an artist, incorporating installation, video, print, performance, drawing and artist publishing. He explores ideas around instruction, and how the body can engage with recent and historic artefacts to generate new knowledge. He attempts to reanimate historic sources through re-enactment strategies where repeating, rhythm, memory and failure test how and when we do and don't learn. Recent practice research has been in exploring moving image archives and their potential in art-making - drawn both from analogue and digital sources.
He is keenly interested in the voice of the artist, and how this manifests in research, practice, writing, events, dialogues through commissions, online projects, residential exchanges, curatorial projects and artist-led activity. He has also worked and has strong relationships with galleries and cultural organisations across the South West, including Tate St Ives, Newlyn and Exchange Gallery, KARST, Back Lane West, Plymouth Arts Centre, Exeter Phoenix, Arnolfini and Spike Island.

Steven has a BA (Hons) and MA in Fine Art and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education. He currently sits on the AIR Council, an advisory committee to a-n's The Artist Information Company and completed his AHRC 3D3 Practice Research PhD at Plymouth University in 2019.
Dr Natalia Eernstman is an artist, educator and researcher, specialising in (community) learning through artful and performative means. She is a senior lecturer on the MA Creative Education and runs (research) projects in the field of creative education, community-engaged art practice, intergenerational learning and environmental art. She works in communities and with universities, often around climate change and bridging (social) science and art.
With over 10 years of experience Natalia is a skilled facilitator and she has run large-scale site-specific art events. She was part of the Education Department at Wageningen University in The Netherlands and holds a PhD from University Arts London / Falmouth University.
Current collaborations are with the University of Gothenburg in a project called ‘Imaginative Disruption’. And she is in the process of setting up a CIC that connects children and their families in creative, collaborative learning to translate debilitating feelings of eco-anxiety in agency. She is also involved in organising the biennial symposium Making Learning at Plymouth College of Art.
