Ceramic Handbuilding for Improvers — Overview
This course covers more advanced methods of building with clay. Students can use these techniques to make delightful objects, from pots to vases and all that’s in between. Students will be encouraged to experiment, making pots, ornaments, sculptures etc. from their own ideas and designs. Students will be guided and supported individually to use clay and glazes with confidence.
Health and safety induction, different types of clay and their uses, pinch pots
Coiling and design development
Slab building and Slumping
Texture and use of oxides
Slips and Glazes
Weeks 6 - 10
Students can work on set projects or develop their own ideas in clay, using their acquired skills outlined above
Completion of the Beginners Short Courses or prior knowledge and experience of hand building techniques.
Materials and Equipment
Materials for this course are included in the course fee. Please wear old clothes/an overall and strong, flat, closed-toe footwear.
Please note that all courses are subject to student numbers and will only run if sufficient numbers are achieved. Plymouth College of Art reserves the right to cancel a course if insufficient student numbers are recruited.
