Third year BA (Hons) Graphic Design student Joshua Blackwell is using his creative direction skills to help promote l*ghtw'rks, a music collective and newly launched record label which he co-founded in 2013.

l*ghtw'rks' brand of music – inspired by the audio pioneers of Chicago and Detroit –  has been gaining critical acclaim locally and further afield. The group have an established following in Berlin, where they host a regular radio show on Etikett Radio.

Joshua says that his role as creative director is one he has "dreamt about"  since discovering the work of graphic designer Peter Saville's iconic record sleeves for Factory Records.

"I have founded l*ghtw'rks with two of my greatest friends, so I enjoy a similar freedom to Factory's creative director."

l*ghtw'rks currently operate as a podcast station, releasing weekly guest mixes from up-and-coming local DJs and internationally known names.

This month, the collective celebrated their first birthday and EP release at popular Bretonside music venue White Rabbit.

Further all-vinyl releases are planned for the near future.
