Plymouth College of Art is committed to celebrating the new wave of makers ready to take over the creative industries from across our School of Design + Communication and School of Arts + Media.
We want to ensure that despite the lockdown, all of our graduating students have the opportunity to present their work to the public and to celebrate their status as graduating students of Plymouth College of Art — all the more notable as this cohort will be the first to graduate with a degree qualification accredited by the college, following the Privy Council’s approval to award Plymouth College of Art taught degree awarding powers (TDAP) in April 2019.
While global events have changed the nature of the Class of 2020 final year degree show, they will be sharing this virtual community of practice with thousands of their peers from other arts universities around the world who have faced many of the same challenges.
Promoting your work
This Summer, as in previous years, we are committed to celebrating your work as emerging art, design and media professionals stepping into the competitive creative industries. Working with your Subject Leader, each BA (Hons) and Extended BA programme will soon be asked to collate a collection of work using an existing festival, platform, website, exhibition, publication or alternative format, best suited to their creative specialism.
In the next week, your Subject Leader will invite you to complete a ‘Content Submission Form’. This form will include space to provide an artist statement, ongoing contact information, artwork and credits, and must be completed by 31 July 2020. This deadline will allow for Subject Leaders to successfully gather enough information on their cohort and launch in time with the revised submission date (Thursday 20 August).
Understandably, current restrictions may influence the work you wish to exhibit, and so we encourage students to submit any projects they are proud of, including but not limited to; sketchbook pages, storyboards, moodboards, models, prototypes, personal projects and completed artworks from years 1 & 2.
With your permission this information will also be used to populate a series of online listings and press releases sent to national media, supporting your ongoing success in the creative industries and providing vital exposure for the class of 2020.
Ignite 2020: Online directory of creative talent
Funded by Arts Council England and the Department for Culture, Media & Sport, IGNITE 2020 provides an opportunity to have your creative practice showcased within an online directory of emerging talent. Read more.
Physically exhibit your work in Summer 2021
We understand that nothing can replace the experience of exhibiting your work in a physical space, and so Plymouth College of Art will offer any final year student completing their studies in 2020, the opportunity to exhibit a selection of your work as part of the annual degree shows next year. The Graduate Exposé 2021 event will be open to all graduate alumni who wish to exhibit their work to our industry guests and visitors in a specially curated ‘one year on’ format.
Please check the Student Bulletin in your college email for more details.
