BA (Hons) Film grad Ciara Sheridan is heading for a placement at Film Design International in Pinewood Studios – to be trained and mentored by chairman of the British Film Designers Guild, Terry Ackland-Snow.
The course is aimed at creative professionals and graduates who demonstrate strong ability and determination in Film for them to gain additional art department training in order to further their career in film and television.
“I first heard of the school via some research and immediately requested more information. I got in contact with Jo, Terry's personal assistant, and before I knew it I had an interview," says Ciara.
"I brought my portfolio to share with Terry and he shared his work with me. After about 20 minutes I was offered the placement – and a glass of wine to celebrate!”
Terry Ackland-Snow holds film credits in feature films such as Aliens, Dark Crystal, The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Batman, and Ciara is naturally excited to start working with such a brilliant director and learning directly from one of the best in the industry.
Ciara says of her time here, “Life at the college was an opportunity to explore who I was and what I wanted to contribute. Having such creative and competitive peers around me was challenging but extremely rewarding.
“I feel that in such an expressive medium such as film, friendships with both classmates and tutors can become a source of great support and knowledge.”
BA (Hons) Film programme leader Lucy Leake says, “It’s always great to hear that our graduates are getting these brilliant opportunities. We really get to know them over the course of the programme and Ciara is so deserving of this placement. I’m sure she'll go far.”
“My future plans now lay in Pinewood Studios. I'm there indefinitely and hope to be working and contributing to the future of film design as soon as I begin.”
