Lawrence West, our Glass Studio Co-Ordinator – based in our new Craft, Design and Fabrication Workshops – has won the craft&design Newcomer Award at the British Craft Trade Fair 2014.
The award, which has been running since 1996, chooses a winner based on originality and skill in design and making, presentation and design of the exhibition stand at BCTF, business skills and ability.
Lawrence won the award – which comprises of 12 months promotion and business support from craft&design to the value of £3,000 – alongside a 3 page front cover feature in the magazine.
“The award was a complete surprise,” says Lawrence. “I was advised and encouraged to apply for a trade show to contact a wider audience.
This recognition and exposure has obviously helped me push my work forward and given me confidence and determination to pursue my goals.”
The magazine reflects and represents the contemporary design-led UK craft industry.
He speaks about his role here at the college, “It has allowed me to develop as an artist, technician, manager, teacher and demonstrator.”
Working with the students is extremely rewarding. Developing their individual skills and knowledge of glass is a large part of my job."
The Nov/Dec issue of craft&design is now on sale. Look out for a copy in our library, or click here for information on stockists and more.
