Hidden Talent in Devon’s latest digital skills course

By Beth Pyner

Would you like to improve your digital design and manufacturing skills? Perhaps you can’t get that promotion without improving your digital skillset? Or maybe you’re changing your career, but your digital design and manufacturing skills are holding you back?

If that sounds like you, Hidden Talent in Devon is delivering a fourth run of its Design & Make (Almost) Anything course with Fab Lab Plymouth - and it’s fully funded by the European Social Fund.

Design & Make (Almost) Anything is an eight week short course that teaches participants to use Autodesk’s Fusion 360 software, an intuitive CAD/CAM package that allows users to design and make products from conception through to production. Delivered with Fab Lab Plymouth, the course includes learning various software design functions through a tutor-led project, as well as developing a personal project. Relevant to all industries - from toys to tech and architecture to the built environment - the course aims to benefit participants’ professional development in employment or self-employment. Based in Fab Lab Plymouth, Design & Make (Almost) Anything includes access to state of the art facilities, including 3D printers and scanners, laser cutters, CNC milling machines and more.

Previous Design & Make (Almost) Anything courses have supported the development of a huge variety of personal projects, including a jeweller designing a bespoke jewellery stand, a budding engineer redesigning the fuselage of an aeroplane, and a design student working on a range of air fresheners that transport you via scent to another part of the world. Why not join our next Design & Make (Almost) Anything course to add your project to the list? The next course will run on Wednesday evenings 6pm-9pm, from 30 January 2019. To be eligible to take part, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Aged over 16
  • Eligible to work in the UK
  • Living in Devon
  • Accessing Design & Make (Almost) Anything to support your employability, self-employment, or access to further study
