Graphic Design grad Sue Lewry wins Best in Show at New Blood

By Sarah Packer

Sue Lewry, BA (Hons) Graphic Design graduate was awarded 'Best in Show' by D&AD New Blood.

BA (Hons) Graphic Design graduate Sue Lewry won ‘Best in Show’ at D&AD's New Blood for her stunning fashion-focused ‘Sumi’ project last month.

Championing the very best in design, D&AD New Blood Festival invites graduating students to flaunt their work in the face of the industry, make meaningful connections and land their first break at a time when brands, agencies and studios open their doors.

"To be hand-selected as one of this year’s New Blood Festival Best In Show winners was extremely rewarding. An industry professional commented how my work was ‘complex, considered and skillfully realised’.

"It was stimulating being surrounded by hundreds of creative graduates from around the country and it enabled me to gauge where my work fits within the contemporary design world," said Sue.

"Comprehensive, professional fashion branding." — Ed Bolton, Creative Director at BrandCap.

Sue champions a co-existence of print and digital where neither is superior; she combines the immediacy of the web with the tactile experience of print, aiming to stimulate new ways to engage across online and physical worlds.

She generates ideas by blending techniques in moving image, photography, typography, printmaking, laser-cutting and digital design.

'Sumi' by Sue Lewry, BA (Hons) Graphic Design grad.

Sue intends to continue this signature style of practice to transform creative visions into unique visual solutions – be it in fashion or music industry – through further collaborations and postgraduate study.

“It was a really exciting few days at New Blood and for Sue to win ‘Best in Show’ was a great way of celebrating all her hard work this year,” said Kamal Gohil, BA (Hons) Graphic Design lecturer.

You can see Sue's work in our BOSS exhibition now. Open to all from 16 July to 28 August in the Gallery.
