Full STEAM ahead for British Science Week

By Catherine Goldsmith

Discover more about how the arts and sciences collide in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths) with a fun afternoon of activities at Plymouth College of Art.

From the technology we use every day in our Fab Lab, to discovering the chemistry behind developing photographs in our darkrooms, science is a fundamental element of our art practices. This event will give you the chance to find out more about the science behind photography, you'll get the chance to have hands on experience using the latest 3D scanning technology to create 3D images, produce your own cyanotype photography in our dark room and find out more on microsopic photography.

There will also be a public talk, given by Dr Larch Maxey, a co-ordinator from Extinction Rebellion, and Chris Smith (Plymouth College of Art Pre-Degree Sustainability Lead & Subject Leader) on the latest climate science and where our planet is heading.

Bring your families, bring your friends, or just bring yourself!

The event includes:

  • Introduction into STEAM
  • Photography in the New Space Age (Talk)
  • Cyanotype Photography Darkroom Workshop
  • An Introduction into Microscopic Photography
  • Have a Go at 3D Scanner Technology
  • Climate Change: Heading to extinction & what to do about it
