Five must-see Graphic Design graduates at D&AD 2016

By Sarah Packer

Students exhibit at the annual D&AD New Blood exhibition in Shoreditch, London

Discover cutting edge art by the next generation of creative designers at D&AD New Blood – open Tuesday 5th to Thursday 7th July 2016…

Our end of year Graduate Shows, which ran from Saturday 11 June to Friday 24 June 2016, saw the college transform from a vibrant workshop and studio complex into a dynamic, public showcase for new work in art, craft, design and digital media.

Now our graduates are set to exhibit at shows like New Designers, D&AD and TENT London, inspiring you with work created by a community of global thinkers.

We’re proud to present five must-see BA (Hons) Graphic Design graduates and their final major projects – the culmination of their time spent studying, experimenting, growing and making – ready to showcase at D&AD New Blood in London.

1. Allie Couch - BA (Hons) Graphic Design

Changing Perspectives’

"Allie’s engaging  & challenging project looks to redefine the spectrum of human abilities. She sensitively explores the internal qualities of a barren industrial space in Plymouth by contrasting it with projection and installation based messages, asking us to change our perspective."

2. Max Burke - BA (Hons) Graphic Design

ESOS Community’

"Max aims to support and generate a human community more focused on care, utilizing smart technology in a cut back culture. It’s extremely positive to see a young designer taking on challenging topics and dealing with them in such a sensitive and practical way."

3. Alan Qualtrough - BA (Hons) Graphic Design

Westerly’

"Alan has crafted and developed a beautiful typeface called ‘Westerly’ derived from Plymouth’s rich nautical history and the prevailing westerly winds. The font reflects the hope and struggle of the voyage between England and North America."

4. Casey Byrne - BA (Hons) Graphic Design

An Investigation Into Sound Visualisation

"Casey’s project comes directly from his love of music and the will to visually immerse us further into the world of modern music. Both sound and visuals connect through bright panels displaying frequencies and colour. Projection mapping and coding have been explored in experimental play, inviting us to look further, but not close our eyes."

5. Jamie Wynn - BA (Hons) Graphic Design

Creative Junkie’

"Jamie’s exciting ‘Creative Junkie’ project seeks to re-address the theme of destruction being a creative act, in a throwaway culture he asks us to rethink of perception of waste. The project invites us to submit our creations to an online community to inspire all."
