Artists Unn Devik (Falmouth University) and Shannon Watson (Plymouth College of Art) wrap up their 3-month residency as Spike Island’s Graduate Fellows with a collaborative exhibition "For a Fellow". During their time in residence, Devik and Watson have explored the idea of shared space and of the fellow – as in a comrade or associate – and this collaborative exhibition sees them delve further into these ideas, through paint, performance and participatory practice.
Shannon Watson graduated from Plymouth College of Art in 2018. Through her socially engaged practice, Watson aims to generate awareness for sociocultural histories attached to contemporary environments. She often conducts local research, interacting with people that have personal connections with particular locations or themes, often leading to collaboratively constructed installations and live public events.
Through a common interest in communication and stories from the everyday, Watson and Devik have unified their practices to explore themes surrounding the liminal in shared spaces, repetition and fellowship through paint, performance and participation.
Test Space is programmed by studio holders based at Spike Island and offers artists a chance to exhibit new works and test ideas. Artists from within the Spike Island community and beyond are included.
Join them both at the preview evening on Friday 18 January, 6-9pm. Please ask at reception for access.
