We're pleased to announce that this year's Graduation ceremony will be hosted at Plymouth's Theatre Royal on the afternoon of Sunday 27 November 2016.

Graduation is an exciting opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the excellent achievement of all our graduating students along with friends, family and teaching staff.

You’ll be sent an electronic Save the Date during July and then links to purchase tickets for friends and family at a later date, so please check your emails regularly for updates.

Planning your day

The ceremony will take place at Theatre Royal Plymouth, Royal Parade, Plymouth, PL1 2TR.

The Theatre’s capacity allows for lots of seats for friends and family and has a cafe and a restaurant onsite to use on the day between your gowning and photos. We’ll update you with some local restaurant offers in the autumn.

To reach the venue, allow around 15 minutes to walk from the train station and 10 minutes walk from the bus station – although most local buses stop on Royal Parade.

If you are arriving to Plymouth by car you will be able to park at any one of the car parks located in the town centre – most of which are just a short walking distance away from the venue. There are three Pay and Display car parks close to the Theatre.

If you wish to stay in Plymouth during Graduation, the Visit Plymouth website features an extensive range of accommodation. We’ll also have some great offers available for accommodation in the area – more details coming soon.

Students will be allocated one free graduate ticket for yourself, whilst guest tickets for friends & family are £22.50 each. At present students are limited to two guests each due to capacity restrictions, additional tickets may become available closer to the date - you will receive email notification should this be the case.

The first round of tickets is now open and will remain available until Friday 30 September. After this date we shall assess the number of leftover seats and release these for resale. If you wish to guarantee your two guest tickets you must ensure you book before the Friday 30 September.

Please check your emails for more details on booking your tickets.

If you have any special requirements such as wheelchair access, visual or hearing impairment please email details to or contact us on 01752 203434 ext 801.

Robing and photography

Robes must be booked prior to the ceremony via Ede and Ravenscroft:

Robes are provided by Ede & Ravenscroft and are separate to booking tickets.
Click on “Hire a Gown” via “Academic Dress”
Enter Plymouth College of Art and complete the order form

Although the ceremony does not start until 4.00pm, doors will be open from 12:00pm, with robing and photography commencing from 12.00pm too.
Please ensure you give yourself enough time and are ready to take your seat at 3.45pm.

Tips for students
  • Don’t wear your hair up as your mortarboard (hat) may not stay on. You may want to bring kirby hair grips to help keep your mortarboard in place.
  • If wearing a shirt, make sure the collar is stiff enough to pin your gown and hood to.
  • Only wear high heeled shoes if you feel brave enough to ascend and descend the steep stairs!
  • Bring some safety pins too so that you can attach your gown/hood to your clothes.

If you require accommodation, The Copthorne Hotel and Holiday Inn are offering a special discounted rate for Plymouth College of Art graduates, friends and family. Please check your emails for the discount code.

Keep an eye out for exclusive offers in the run up to the ceremony. If you have any questions, please email

We look forward to celebrating your fantastic achievements!
