BA (Hons) Film graduates show work at this year’s Aesthetica Short Film Festival

Congratulations to BA (Hons) Film graduates Jake Tish and Tom German, whose final major projects were screened at the Aesthetica Short Film Festival in York last weekend.

The Aesthetica Short Film Festival is one of the most exciting site-specific events in the UK film calendar. This year’s festival presented over 300 films from across the world, in genres including advertising, animation, artists’ film, comedy, documentary, drama, fashion and more.

Malvinas from Jake Tish on Vimeo.

‘Malvinas’ by Jake Tish was screened in the festival’s Artists’ Film category. The short documentary, shot on a Bolex H16 R, tells the story of one man's experience of the Falklands war, whilst walking his dog on a beach in South Wales.

Somewhere Else from Tom German on Vimeo.

Tom German’s offering ‘Somewhere Else’ was screened in the Documentary category of the festival. The film is an observational portrait of the surfer John Eldridge, made during the final months of Tom’s film degree. Inspired by the works of cult magazines such as Desillusion and What Youth, Somewhere Else explores the subcultures that fill John’s life. The film examines elements of surfing and motorbike culture, concentrating on how living in England has impacted on being part of these things.
