Fashion Media & Marketing students take over London and Paris Fashion Week

First and second year students from our BA (Hons) Fashion Media and Marketing degree hit the streets of London and Paris for AW 19 Fashion Week to try out their new photography skills capturing everyone from A-list celebrities to Instagram-famous bloggers.

Each year BA (Hons) Fashion Media and Marketing students have the opportunity to visit some of the world's most iconic fashion capitals with the task of capturing some famous faces showing off their attire before they take their seats at the acclaimed fashion shows.

We caught up with some of the students to discuss their time in London and Paris.

Lasting a week at a time, trips such as these are crucial for students studying Fashion Media and Marketing, they're able to put their skills into practise and use the opportunity to develop industry-standard portfolios.

Each evening the students would spend their time retouching their images and posting to their personal social media sites in the hopes of being re-posted by magazines or the celebrities and bloggers themselves.

Megan Hughes-Jenkins, a second year Fashion Media and Marketing student was thrilled when fashion and lifestyle blogger IntheFrow reposted her image to her Instagram page that boasts a huge 828,000 followers. She explained that during the trip she chose to focus on street style fashion photography specifically.

Students are taught a wide range of skills from technical to traditional and are challenged to approach celebrities and fashion influencers from the likes of Jennifer Lawrence to Victoria’s Secret ‘Angel’ Jourdan Dunn in order to capture the perfect shot.

"I found the experience very challenging but it pushed me to achieve my goals, I wanted to prove to myself that I could take photos under pressure. I also wanted to to become more confident with addressing people that I had never met." - Victoria Hughes, Year 1 Fashion Media and Marketing student

From photography to retouching, entrepreneurship to developing their confidence; students have the opportunities to undertake internships at a variety of big names in the industry. Including, Love Magazine, Womens Health magazine and fashion brand Red or Dead in order to prepare them for a career in the ever-changing dynamic fashion marketing industry upon graduating.
