What will I do on the National Diploma in Media?

In the BTEC National Diploma in Media (Television and Film) you will explore the creative world of the moving image developing skills of planning, producing and editing your own genre of work.

The BTEC Media course will include practical skills which cover lighting, editing, camera work, visualisation and sound skills. These practical applications are enhanced over the two years by an understanding of the theory behind your practice. Your ability to plan and analyse will be developed enabling you to fully exploit your creative potential in this exciting area.

The National Diploma in Media programme is diverse enabling opportunities to work closely with other appropriate art, design and media disciplines.

What qualifications will I gain?
  • National Diploma Media (Television and Film) – equivalent to 3 full A-Levels
  • Learning Skills and Complementary qualifications are embedded into this course

What qualifications will I need?

We normally offer places for the BTEC Media course to students who have at least 4 GCSEs at grade C or above and who can show commitment and enthusiasm for art and design through examples of creative work.  Applications welcome from candidates without formal qualifications who can provide evidence of their creativity.

If you do not have the necessary experience or qualifications for the BTEC National Diploma in Media we offer a First Diploma which upon successful completion may enable progression to a National Diploma course.

How do I apply for the BTEC Media (Television and Film)?

We offer all prospective students an opportunity to request an advisory interview to ensure that you are placed on the most suitable course; this can be a good opportunity to ask questions and get some advice on what we like to see in a portfolio.

When we receive your completed application form we will arrange for you to have an interview and ask you to bring along examples of your creative work.

Whilst we are happy to receive applications at any time of the year, we would encourage you to apply as early as possible before the start of the course.

What can I do next?

Successful students may progress to a variety of higher education courses at Plymouth College of Art, for example Foundation Degree and BA (Hons) Film Arts and Animation Arts programmes, or gain entry to degree level courses at other Colleges and Universities. Alternatively you may choose to look for employment.
