BTEC ND Art and Design at Plymouth College of Art
The BTEC National Diploma in Art and Design course is designed to for those students who know they want to pursue a career in Art and Design but wish to explore further their chosen route.
Within the BTEC in Art and Design course you will work towards developing expertise in a range of art and design skills by covering a variety of different workshops to support your art work. These consist of life drawing, printmaking, photography, sculpture, 3D, ceramics, textiles and a variety of software programmes.
Research of contemporary and historical art movements will be integrated within your studio session and supported with visiting artists.
What qualifications will I gain?
National Diploma in Art and Design – equivalent to 3 full A-Levels
Learning Skills and Complementary qualifications are embedded into this course
What qualifications will I need?
We normally offer places to students who have at least 4 GCSEs at grade C or above and who can show commitment and enthusiasm for art and design through examples of creative work. Applications welcome from candidates without formal qualifications who can provide evidence of their creativity.

We offer all prospective students an opportunity to request an advisory interview to ensure that you are placed on the most suitable course; this can be a good opportunity to ask questions and get some advice on what we like to see in a portfolio.

When we receive your completed application form we will arrange for you to have an interview and ask you to bring along examples of your creative work.
Whilst we are happy to receive applications at any time of the year, we would encourage you to apply as early as possible before the start of the course.
What can I do next?
Successful students may progress to a variety of higher education programmes at Plymouth College of Art, for example Foundation Degrees in Fine Art Practices, Graphic Design, Applied Arts or gain entry to degree level courses at other Colleges and Universities. Alternatively you may choose to look for employment.
