Foundation Degree Spatial Design at Plymouth College of Art

Graduates may work in an architect’s office whether focussed on interiors or visualisations and communication with clients. It’s possible to continue studying at any stage, progressing to a related MA programme.

They may work within a landscape architect/urban design team developing design tasks, and some consider furthering their training with a postgraduate landscape architecture MA.

Some may join a performance set design team, exhibition design, or interior design team covering commercial hospitality interiors such as restaurants or hotels, or shop remodelling.

Given the national school rebuilding programme and government backed home building projects, this area of work has opportunities for the foreseeable future. Commercial and performance related design work is likewise going to continue to develop and provide employment opportunities.

What are my career options after the programme?

  • Commercial or Domestic Designer
  • Landscape/Open Space Designer
  • Performance (Theater, Film or TV) Designer
  • Public and Community Arts Practitioner
  • Urban Regeneration Planner
  • Exhibition Designer

Recent graduates have worked in employment and internships for the following companies: Zestarts Plymouth (responsible for enhancement of NHS areas with art and design), Researchplusdesign architects, Urban Splash (development company), a local exhibition and events company, a loft conversion design company.  Others have gone onto further study.
