Foundation Degree Interdisciplinary Art, Design and Media at Plymouth College of Art
Whichever Plymouth pathway you choose, you will be encouraged to explore and embrace all of the facilities and techniques the unity of the College puts within your reach. This new programme takes our aversion to pigeon-holing a stage further by offering a programme that draws broadly on the arts, cultural theory and social context. It also amounts to a highly eclectic three-year art and design foundation course combining new and traditional media. It acknowledges that artists and designers are relying increasingly on the expertise and guidance of a new generation of cross-art form producers.
The emphasis is on the interaction between creative and critical practices. Creative practice, in our case, includes glass, film, textiles, painting, 3D compu ter generated visualisation, photography and printmaking. Critical practice involves honing your communication skills, evaluating your own and other students’ work and finding continuous enrichment in networking, project management and group collaboration and negotiation.
Process in art and design is becoming as important as product. So the projects you will work on will encourage you to consider the relationship between the role of art-making in society and the contribution of emerging disciplines such as service design and creative producing.
The programme also includes critical and contextual studies, opportunities for internship and enterprise and professional practice. You will be helped to focus on your career through live engagements with real clients, work placements and curatorial activity.
