FD Film and Media Production

Contemporary Film and Media Production is a dynamic vocational programme based on learning by doing. It will immerse you in a variety of professional roles and contexts at the same time as providing you with a thorough grounding in the history and theoretical study of film.

We will help you to become a highly skilled, innovative and versatile film and video practitioner equipped to work inside the industry’s leading organisations. Plymouth graduates have started their careers with Raindance, BBC Films, ProCam, Granada Film Productions, Two Four; others are working as independents and freelancers in the European film and broadcast industries.

From the first, we will give you hands-on experience of key roles, such as storyboarding and concept design, scriptwriting, sound design, high definition videography, Super-16mm cinematography, editing, directing and producing.

We will encourage you to get involved in critical debates to develop and contextualise your own production activities and we will help you to get to grips with the business of exhibition and also distribution though a study of existing and emerging commercial structures.

Our specialist film arts production resource is by far the most comprehensive in the region. You wll be able to experiment with Super-16mm cinematography, high definition videography and postproduction directing for film and TV, 5.1 surround sound design for film, screenwriting – even underwater film and video.


After this Foundation Degree, top up to a BA (Hons) you’ll get two qualifications in 3 years!
