BA (Hons) Underwater and Surface Based Imaging at Plymouth College of Art
This programme is a final 1 year honours programme at level 3. Entry is by way of a 2 year Foundation degree programme or equivalent.
The South West region and Plymouth in particular is uniquely placed to offer the range of natural and man made resources to support this programme. The region boasts a diverse local marine ecology, the Naval and civilian diving resources and the Scilla- a ship sunk just off the coast in order to create an artificial reef suitable for diving.
Match this with the stunning coastline and water-based sports and leisure and you have one of the most spectacular resources for visual imagery in Europe.
Plymouth is a major centre for the maritime activity in the UK. Our photographers undertake collaborative projects with institutions such as The Marine Biological Association. The National Marine Aquarium is Britain’s foremost aquarium of its kind is located on the harbour just a few minutes walk from the college. This BA (Hons) programme affords the opportunity to develop and expand your underwater or water-based imaging skills. You will explore in detail your chosen area of photographic or moving image practice leading towards the production and presentation of a major body of work that will be exhibited to the public and form the basis of your professional or artistic portfolio/showreel.
On completion of this students will have a comprehensive understanding of both future careers in the range of water-based imaging activities and industries as well as further study options. You will have developed finely honed technological skills, reflected in a distinctive portfolio of work and methods of self-promotion pertinent to career aspirations. You will also be able to respond to, and embrace, changing technology and shifts in the industry. Independent thought processes and outstanding creativity will underpin technical excellence. Our aim is to facilitate passionate image-makers who will shape image-making practice now and in years to come.
