BA-(Hons)-Animation-(3-Year)

BA (Hons) Animation (3 Year)

Animators are the magicians of popular culture. Their command of illusion and methods of visual explanation means that their skills are highly sought after, not only by the entertainment industry but also by documentary makers, scientific and architectural visualisation specialists and numerous other professions. Plymouth animation graduates develop expertise across the range of creative practice, from storytelling to political communication to social marketing, as well as gaining the confidence building, time-management and presentation skills they need to succeed. The programme encourages critical inquiry and innovation based on a thorough grounding in craft-based skills and digital production methods.

The BA first year focuses on fundamentals such as storyboarding and narrative, on creating content for single screen, projection, installation and multiplatform environments, and on 3D and 2D CGI composition. During the second year the emphasis moves towards production management and entrepreneurial skills. In the final year you will consolidate your professional identity and confirm your academic credentials as a reflective practitioner. You will also undertake a research project, in the form of a dissertation or a practice-led contextual enquiry.

Animation students routinely use a range of composing suites and learn to master industry-standard software such as Audition, Maya, Toon Boom and After Effects.
