Recent graduates of Plymouth College of Art Spatial Design Degree and current students on work placements have assisted a local architect in designing a new Bandstand for Devonport Park in Plymouth.
Robert Bedner, Director of  Research+Design, who recently won a prestigious Alan King 2009 award, has been assisted by students in the planning of the designs for the new Bandstand.
Serena Scrine, Programme Leader for the Spatial Design Degree at the College said: “Our programmes include principles of spatial organisation, experience with site analysis, meeting the needs of a client brief and developing creative solutions.
“Students gain confidence through these projects; in presentation and developing a visual language of their own with the power to communicate effectively and professionally.
“The students have been very keen and excited to work on this project with Research+Design, it was a fantastic opportunity for them.”
The Friends of Devonport Park won an award of £44,881 in the latest Participatory Budgetary event run by DRC Partnership. This money allocated to them will allow the Friends of Devonport Park to establish the foundations and base for the bandstand.
The base designed by students and Research+Design, who recently won a prestigious Alan King 2009 award, is going to be constructed in Plymouth limestone and be designed to eventually accommodate the main bandstand to be built on top.
