Careers at Plymouth College of Art

Plymouth established its first College of Art in the 1850’s. Now some 150 years later the College has a history of provision including over 23 years of higher education courses in art and design – the longest uninterrupted provision in the City and is known for its lively, friendly and stimulating environment. It is a thriving, bustling College where the teaching staff are drawn from the widest range of art and design disciplines and most are established practitioners, artists, designers and makers.

Where numerous art colleges throughout the country have lost their special identity and have been merged with other educational establishments, Plymouth College of Art is an independent art College and is flourishing. We are proud of our long history and specialist art college culture and status. It allows us to focus on the essence of strong vocational art and design through the highly specialist and very well resourced studios and workshops dedicated to creative experimentation.

Some fifty five percent of the work of the College is Higher Education, forty five percent Further Education. In addition to full-time courses there are art and design courses for school pupils, Saturday morning and evening classes and a variety of courses for community groups and creative industries.

The College offers National Diplomas, Foundation Degrees, Honours Degrees and top-ups. There are appropriately 2,500 students and over 230 staff.
