How to apply

This section will give you information on how to apply for our courses and programmes that we offer and what happens next.

For post GCSE courses such as National Diplomas and the Foundation Diploma you can apply online by visting the course area and selecting the apply online option. Alternatively application forms are available from the College’s Information Point:

Applications can be made at any time during the year, with most interviews taking place between February and June. The application form asks for details of previous qualifications, and any relevant work experience. You will also be asked to write a few paragraphs supporting your application and to provide a reference from someone who can comment on your suitability for the programme, for example an employer or art teacher. This form also provides an opportunity for you to inform the Disability and Learning Development Advisor of any learning difficulties or disabilities.

Part-time Study

Also if you wish to study part-time on one of our courses and at degree level, please fill in the College application form.

For those students who wish to apply to study a degree here at the College, please click on the section ‘How to Apply for a degree programme?’

Interviews and Portfolios

Although the application form provides background on your qualifications and previous experience, studying the Arts is about so much more than that. We want to see your creative potential, ability and passion and for this reason you may be invited to attend an interview with a portfolio of your work. This will provide you with an opportunity to talk about your aspirations, what inspires you and why you want to study at the College, and gives us a chance to explain what we, as a college, can offer you. By showing us your portfolio we will be able to consider your specific interests and abilities to help us, and you, decide whether Plymouth College of Art is the right place for you to study.

The College aims to respond back to all applicants within two working weeks with an interview date and time. Most interviews take place on week-days so please bear this in mind.

Advisory Interviews

Advisory interviews are there to help. If you need guidance, further information or would just like to talk through your options, these interviews offer the perfect opportunity. Held with a member of the College Advisory Team, you will be given advice about the area of Art and Design that may be suitable for you and how to develop your portfolio for interview. It is also advisable to bring along any work that you may have. To book an advisory interview please contact the Info Point on 01752 203434 or email enquiries@plymouthart.ac.uk
