Higher Education and Degree Courses at Plymouth College of Art
Plymouth College of Art believe that creativity from the arts, design and media can lever genuine cultural and social change for the better by creating artefacts, services and experiences that add significant value. In terms of our postgraduate agenda, our aim is to encourage and support you to understand the current contemporary creative landscape and to develop approaches that shift, re-position, or change its topography for your own and others'benefit.
Our three part-time Masters programmes share a common-core which encourages debate, exchange, inter-disciplinary collaboration, and activation of your potential to be a change agent in your field. This is achieved through a supportive platform of generic modules focused on skill building (Activating Research, Creative Exploration) balanced with encouragement to journey through new creative terrain (Experimental Practices) and to develop new networks and partners (Live External Project). These common-core areas compliment the more specialist modules that provide deep skills and knowledge in your specific subject throughout the course.
As a Masters student at Plymouth College of Art you will benefit from access to a rich post-graduate research culture, coupled with extensive links to the College's partners and networks in Plymouth city, the South West Region and beyond. This is achieved by professionally focussed College organisations such as ArtsMatrix in collaboration with external partners across the Creative and Cultural Industries, including organisations focused on the regeneration of social, environmental and financial capital in the region, e.g. Real Ideas Organisation, Plymouth Arts Centre, Centre for Contemporary Art and the Natural World, Plymouth Media Partnership.
Our range of Masters Programmes are detailed below:
- MA Entrepreneurship for Creative Practice is about informing, nurturing, revitalising and transforming your existing creative practice into start-up enterprises and new initiatives by exploring diverse tools, approaches and strategies to entrepreneurialism and creativity.
- MA Critical Curatorial Practice is a strong project-led programme that will help you develop curatorial models, methods and strategies that explore and challenge the prevailing narratives that make up our dynamic, complex, socio-cultural world.
- MA Creative Practice for Sustainability is about exploring contemporary meanings and opportunities within the economic, social and environmental sustainability agenda, by developing your technological, ethical and practical tools, methods and approaches to creating and making.
