Completing your application

When applying for a vacancy, your application is your chance to showcase your skills and qualifications and to demonstrate that you are suitable for the apprenticeship.

Apprenticeships are employed positions and as such the employer will be looking for a professional application that demonstrates how you meet their selection criteria. Your goal is to convince the employer to shortlist you for the next stage of the selection process.

Some tips...

  • Think about the person reading your application – what skills and experience do you think they are looking for?
  • Carefully read the job description, do they ask for specific skills or experience – how can you demonstrate this in your application?
  • Research the company by visiting their website to get a clear picture of the work that they do, the clients they work with - use this information when completing your application.
  • Research the job roles available to you once you have completed the apprenticeship  - this will demonstrate a career minded approach and knowledge of the industry sector.
  • Describing how your skills are relevant to the apprenticeship and the organisation will help show you’re the right candidatefor the job.
  • Do not use comical or inappropriate email addresses – these can give the wrong impression to the employer.
  • Finally! Ensure that you check your application for spelling and grammar – it is always a good idea to have someone read through your application before you submit.
