Graduation 2010

Plymouth College of Art has provided the kick-start for many successful graduates, such as Charles Dance, Stephana Attard BBC Producer and Bafta winner, Candice Farmer underwater photographer, Zowie Boach co-founder of Boudicca fashion label, and Jim Bott comic illustrator and design manager for Marvel Comics.

In 2010, students graduated at the Methodist Central Hall in Plymouth.

The ceremony was introduced by Principal Lynne Staley-Brookes, who said: “For each of the graduates, today marks the successful achievement of an important journey of learning, development and career progression.”

“Undoubtedly, all staff take immense pleasure and satisfaction in the success of graduates and therefore you are now an alumnus of the College and are part of its history and future. I take this opportunity to convey their best wishes for your future career.”

“I urge you to keep in touch, let us know how we can help you and for you to help the College to ensure that all future graduates contribute to a dynamic and strong community of creative practice.”

In the South West, 89,000 people work in the Creative Industries, a sector which is growing faster than the rest of industry sectors. In particular the region is recognised to have a vibrant arts scene and a thriving community of artists working in glass, metalwork, textiles, pottery, paint, woodwork, and jewellery.

The Graduation Ceremony included a key note speech by Sir John Sorrell CBE of the Sorrell Foundation and a reception at the College.

Lynne Staley-Brookes and Lady Francis Sorrell were both presented with Honorary Doctorates from the Open University for ‘Exceptional Contribution to Education and Culture’.
